This Weekend, Join Friends From Heritage Amity Commons and Head to Manatawny Creek Winery

Sprawled over 90 acres of lush farmland in Amityville, Manatawny Creek Winery is named after the Native American phrase “where we meet to drink.” If you’ve yet to visit, pay $5 to do a tasting, which will get you a sip of eight wines with a little bit of a background story on each. They make everything from a sparkling raspberry wine to a rich, full-bodied merlot or a dry pinot grigio. If you purchase a bottle, you’ll get your $5 back, which is a great deal, because you won’t want to leave without one!

Throughout the year, Manatawny Creek Winery hosts a variety of special events. Coming up this weekend (Jan. 14-15) is the Winter Warmer Weekend event, when they will be serving up soup with their wines all weekend. The winery also hosts cooking classes in one of the buildings on the property. If you have a group of eight friends from Heritage Amity Commons, you can sign up for a group lesson. Paint Nights are also a popular happening, so check the schedule for upcoming dates!

Manatawny Creek Winery: A Douglassville Winery near Heritage Amity Commons

Translated from its original language, "manatawny" means "where we meet to drink." So it's a fitting name for the creek that runs alongside a 90-acre farm in Amityville. It's also a fitting moniker for the winery that resides there, Manatawny Creek Winery.

The family-owned winery just a short trip away from Heritage Amity Commons includes a tasting room that welcomes guests everyday to try complimentary sips of the vineyard's spoils. And with three different vineyards at the farm, encompassing 10 acres total, the winery creates an eclectic mix of wines. The Seyval Blanc and Cayuga White grapes both flourish in Vineyard 1 (along with four other varieties), and when blended together create Manatawny's popular Soleils Jumeaux white wine. For something only slightly darker, try the Autumn Blush, a product of the pink Steuben grapes. If you prefer a robust red wine, Foch and Chancellor grapes are destined to become the Harvest Red wine.
